What attracted Littorai to this area of Savoy is an old world notion that the best parcels within a vineyard lie at the toe of the slope. Adding to this is the complexity of the clones within Savoy. This is the only valley floor vineyard that we work with anywhere. Our rows are located at the base of the hills on the northeastern side of the Anderson Valley. While this is the cooler end of the valley, the vineyard is protected on two sides, trapping more warmth than most of the neighboring sites. Littorai has been the longest purchaser of Savoy fruit since 1995. This vineyard is farmed using only organic materials, not certified.
The 2019 Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard comes from vines planted in 1991-1993 at the cooler northern end of the Anderson Valley. It has a medium ruby color and slowly unfurls aromas of raspberry jam, tobacco, conifer, graphite and bergamot. Medium-bodied, powerful and expressive, it has concentrated flavors for its seamless, silty frame. It finishes with latent spicy accents that suggest it has a long life ahead in the cellar. The 2019 Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard is a wine of remarkable precision. Savoy Pinots are often quite forward, but Littorai's 2019 is all energy and verve. Mint, white pepper, alpine flowers and bright red fruit lend striking aromatic brilliance to this finely sculpted, translucent Pinot. (AG) 01/2021
