MEO-CAMUZET, CLOS DE VOUGEOT 1990 (1.5L)

Thrillingly complex wine this, stored in a warmer than normal conditions and not stood up for long enough as it was still a little cloudy (these need to be stood up for days rather than hours). A wine that has well and truly gone onto the dark side and a magical mystery tour of intriguing tertiary nuances competing for your attention kaleidoscopically as with many DRC wines. Plenty of mineral, dark and milk chocolate, mocha, iron-scented, blood, earth, truffle, grilled meats, mushrooms, espresso, residual raspberry and cherry fruit with a stern yet bracing overlay of austerity and salinity. The University of Davis crowd might find faults in this but nothing outside burgundy can deliver this kind of complexity, nuance and thrills. An apt lesson in why patience is required with red burgundy. I suspect that If this had been stored at 13C rather than 17C it would not have shown so well. 7/23/2017
