Boca DOC “Vigna Cristiana” is the historical denomination and first wine produced by Podere ai Valloni. It is comprised of 70% Nebbiolo, 20% Vespolina and 10% Uva Rara grapes.
It ages in neutral large oak barrels for three years, in which it develops its own peculiar complexity. In the end, the wine is cellared in bottle for another twelve months. With a ruby red colour, our Boca “Vigna Cristiana” is elegant to the nose, with notes of spices and red berries. To the mouth, it has a perfect balance between the tannins and the tartness derived from the soil.
This wine pairs very well with first dishes, especially risotto, but also with seconds of meat, wild game, cured meats and aged cheeses. Boca DOC is a very enduring wine, which can last even 20 years in perfect shape.

90-minute decant. Leather, roses, and soft, truffly earth. A very special wine that became even more heady over the course of the evening. Acid seemed to be beginning to wane, but over all the wine was wonderfully integrated. Tannins were present, but soft, having melded into the whole over the past 33 years. I'd say it still has quite a few years left ahead of it. (2/5/2023)

A Piedmont Night: Slow ox'ed for 6h, decanted for 1h off sediment then back into bottle for dinner 3h later. Green and brown pine needles on the nose with tart dried cherries, earth/tar. Palate had beautiful red cherries, earth accented by tar, hints of dark caramel and slight oxidation. Prominent tannins on the back end and a long finish. Excellent depth. Definitely can go longer but drinking well now.

Garnet, wide watery rim. Earthy aromas and pressed flowers, dried plums, graphite. Remarkably fruity. Medium body. Mild, round, tannins and medium plus acidity. (2/28/2022)

Decanted at 5:30pm and tasted through about 11pm. Translucent medium ruby bordering on garnet with just a hint of bricking on the edge, it got darker and less bricked with air by the 4-5 hour mark. Nose has distinct rose petals, uncooked bacon, cherry blossoms and cherry. Palate is a touch smokey with game meat, bacon, rich brown earth and cherry. Bright acidity, moderate tannin, mostly integrated. Light to medium bodied and textured but still full of flavor. Finish carries just a little drying tannin and very good length, 30-45 seconds. Probably not getting a lot better but certainly not falling apart in any way. A Fine example of an Alto Piemonte/Boca Nebbiolo from a warm vintage prior to more recent climate warming trends in the 21st Century. I’ll probably look to drink my last bottle over the next couple years. (1/30/2021)
